8 Signs It’s Time To Change Jobs

By: Staff LC

Changing jobs is a decision that should not be taken lightly, but there are circumstances that may lead you to urgently seek a change. Here’s what you should take into account.

When you start a new job, everything is peaches and cream, but after a while, you may begin to feel that you are overwhelmed by the monotony and that this place -which you initially loved- has become a kind of prison from which you would like to leave as soon as possible. How do you know it’s time to change jobs? Here are the signs that indicate that you need to look for a new job opportunity.

  1. The hours go on forever at the office.

If you keep looking at the clock waiting for the digits to mark your departure time, it means you have reached a zone of complacency where the work is no longer challenging. If you want to continue growing professionally, it’s best to look for a job where you feel motivated, even when you’re not in the office.

  1. You always speak negatively of your work.

When your friends ask you how your job is, you only answer negatively:  they don’t pay you enough, your boss is the worst, they exploit you. All these complaints should be taken seriously because they are a clear sign you are no longer comfortable at work.

  1. Your boss has gone too far.

It is one thing if your boss demands too much from you at work, but it is quite another if he/she has turned you into his/her private secretary. That is, for some time now, he/she has been asking you for things that have nothing to do with office duties. If you think this is your case, it is very urgent that you look for a job where your skills are valued and you are treated with respect.

  1. Your work is never recognized.

When you do something wrong, your boss is quick to send you an email highlighting all your mistakes, as if he/she enjoys it. But when things go well thanks to your performance, no one says anything to you.

  1. You have been in the same position for years.

If, despite your good performance, you have been in the same position for years and they have not even talked to you about a possible promotion or have ignored the subject when you have mentioned it, it is time to look for a job that offers opportunities for growth.

  1. The treatment is unfair.

Your boss always demands more from you than the rest of your colleagues and it has become a habit for you to stay extra hours in the office to get everything done. If you have brought this up to your boss, and he/she has not made the slightest effort to be more equitable, it is not worth your time.

  1. Verbal aggression.

If insults and shouting have become a regular occurrence, you should consider changing jobs immediately. No one has the right to assault or belittle you.

  1. You have nightmares or dreams about work.

Your stress level is so high that you find it difficult to fall asleep, and when you finally do, you have bad dreams about work! If this is the case, it’s time to put things in perspective and consider whether you are willing to sacrifice your mental and emotional health for a job.
