Nourish Your Hair Naturally with 3 Homemade Masks

By: Gilda Torres

These 3 nourishing homemade masks will leave your hair radiant and healthy-looking without costing you a fortune.

Dry or damaged hair is noticeable. Unfortunately, when hair is unhealthy, no style will look the way you expect it to. We talked about this with Leonella Gonzalez, holistic health coach and creator of Health Living by Leonella, who gave us great tips and natural treatments that will make a big difference in the appearance and health of our hair.

“Dry hair is a bit complicated to accommodate, and it is also very unsightly because it always looks very dull no matter how clean and combed we have it. Although there are cases in which hair dries out due to health conditions, in most cases, it is due to the abuse of chemicals such as dyes, chemical straighteners, etc., or equipment such as electric curling irons,” said the holistic trainer.

However, all is not lost, since according to the stylist, “Maintaining nourished and hydrated hair is quite simple, because nowadays there are many products to do it and also home and natural remedies that help your hair to be perfect.”

Although there are many natural products that, when applied regularly, nourish the hair, Leonella selected her favorites.

The aloe vera plant

In addition to nourishing the hair, aloe vera also reduces frizz, a very common condition in dry hair.

How to apply it? Extract all the gel from inside the plant and apply it to the hair, starting from the ends towards the center. Leave it on for an hour and wash the hair as usual.

Egg and olive oil

An easily made and quite effective mask to nourish hair is an egg and oil mask.

How to prepare and apply it? Start by beating the egg yolk, then mix it with a little olive oil. After these are well mixed, add a little warm water. Apply this mixture from the ends to the middle of the hair, leave it on for half an hour, and wash as usual.

Milk and honey

These two ingredients are ideal for achieving a smooth effect while providing moisture, softness and shine.

How to prepare and apply it? Mix one cup of milk and half a cup of honey. Once well mixed, apply it all over the hair and leave it on for at least an hour. Wash it out and try to let it dry naturally,

Now, although these masks are very effective, we must help our hair to recover by following these recommendations:

-Maintain a healthy and balanced diet.

-Drink plenty of water to keep your hair well hydrated. Drinking water not only keeps your body hydrated, but also your hair, making it less fragile.

-Avoid direct sun exposure. Wear a hat when you are going to be in direct sunlight for a long period of time to reduce sun damage.

-Be sure to use shampoo or conditioner that suits your hair’s condition.

-If you expose your hair to chlorine in the pool or salt water at the beach, try to rinse it thoroughly after swimming to reduce the damage these can cause.

-Try to reduce the use of chemical treatments, such as dyes or perms. If you can’t, then try to use a moisturizing conditioner after each chemical process to help prevent hair from losing moisture.

-Try to apply one of the masks recommended above at least once a week.

-As much as possible avoid instruments such as flat irons and hot blow dryers. If this is impossible, be sure to apply a conditioning serum at the end of the procedure.
