Following colonization, this delectable ingredient gained global popularity. However, it wasn’t until the 1950s that peanut butter began to be commercialized as we know it today. Its taste, versatility, and shelf-stable nature (thanks to its low moisture content) were key factors in winning over the hearts of countless enthusiasts.

Furthermore, peanut butter is hailed as a nutritious product, endorsed by nutritionists for its high protein and calorie content.

  1. Banana and Peanut Butter Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of mashed ripe bananas (2 or 3 medium bananas)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/3 cup of peanut butter
  • 1/3 cup of milk
  • 1 1/3 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  • 3 cups of powdered sugar

Preparation:

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, and baking soda; stir into the banana mixture alternately with the milk. Transfer the batter to a greased loaf pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool on a wire rack.

For the frosting, beat together the peanut butter, milk and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar until well blended. Spread over the cooled bread.

  1. Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 3/4 cups of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 3 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation:

In a bowl, cream together the peanut butter and butter. Gradually mix in the sugar, baking powder and flour until well combined. Beat in the egg, egg yolk and vanilla extract. Stir in the chocolate chips. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto a baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 356°F until golden brown, about 15 to 20 minutes.

  1. Healthy Peanut Butter Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup of raisins, nuts, or a combination of dried fruits
  • ground cinnamon
  • 1 green apple

Preparation:

Slice the apple and remove the core. Spread a layer of peanut butter on each apple slice, sprinkle with chopped nuts or raisins, and top with another apple slice. Finish by sprinkling cinnamon over the sandwich.
