By: Jeanette Hernandez

From margaritas to coquito and beyond, here are five must-try Latin cocktail recipes for the holiday season.

Nothing says ‘Happy Holidays’ like a festive drink. From champurrado to ponche navideño, the options are limitless depending on your taste. Craving Latin-inspired cocktails? We’ve got you covered.

As posadas, Noche Buena, and Christmas Day approaches, we’re all searching for new recipes to entertain–and, let’s be honest, impress–our loved ones. From classic dishes like tamales and pozole to traditional drinks like palomas and margaritas, we’re curating ideas to make this holiday season unforgettable. But why not take it further and put a holiday twist on Latin cocktails?

To inspire your holiday creations, here are five adult beverages that highlight the rich flavors of Latin culture:

Winter Paloma

For all the paloma lovers out there, here’s a festive spin to try. Combine tequila, lime juice, cranberry juice, and Squirt, then garnish with cranberries for a seasonal touch. To elevate it further, this creator adds a mango chamoy and Tajín rim–honestly, it’s making our mouths water!

This one’s on my list for Noche Buena. All you need is Gran Malo Tamarindo tequila, club soda, cranberry juice, and cranberries to give it that festive flair. Top it off with a watermelon chamoy and Tajín rim for extra holiday cheer.

Café de Olla Cocktail

Looking for a cozier flavor? This café de olla cocktail is the perfect warm pick-me-up. It’s made with café de olla concentrate (a mix of water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, piloncillo, brown sugar, and ground coffee), tequila, oat milk, ice, and cinnamon sticks. Finish with an agave syrup and brown sugar rim for a festive touch.

Cafe de olla Cocktail  Recipe: Makes 2 cocktails CAFÉ DE OLLA CONCENTRATE: * I recommend x4 the concentrate recipe to make more than 2 cocktails! * 1½ cups water 1 cinnamon stick 2 whole cloves 2 cardamom pods (optional) 1(2-inch) piece piloncillo or ¼ cup brown sugar Heaping ¼ cup ground coffee COCKTAIL: Agave syrup, for the rim Brown sugar, for the rim 3 ounces tequila blanco Ice 4 ounces oat milk 2 cinnamon sticks and/or a few whole coffee beans 1. To make the concentrate, in a medium pot, combine the water, cinnamon stick, cloves, and piloncillo and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil for 15 minutes, then add the ground coffee and remove the pot from the heat. Set aside until completely cool, 30 to 45 minutes. 2. Hold a fine-mesh strainer over a jar and pour the coffee mixture through it; discard the solids in the strainer. 3. To rim the cocktail glasses, put a bit of agave on a small plate and a bit of brown sugar on another small plate. Press the rim of each glass into the agave, then dip into the brown sugar; it's up to you whether you'd like the whole rim coated (in which case you can rotate the glass to fully cover the rim with both garnishes) or just a small portion (in which case you can just dip and lift the glass without rotating). 4. In a cocktail shaker, combine 4 ounces of the café de olla concentrate, the tequila, and a handful of ice, then secure the lid and shake 8 to 10 times.

Traditional Coquito

No Latin holiday is complete without Puerto Rican coquito, and it’s easier to make than you think. For this traditional recipe, you’ll need water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, coconut milk, cream of coconut, sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Blend the ingredients, add BACARDÍ rum for a boozy twist, and serve chilled. Traditionally, it’s served in a bottle.

Spiked Mexican Hot Chocolate

Last weekend, I had the most incredible spiked hot cocoa, so I had to include this recipe! This Mexican-inspired version features evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, water, and traditional Mexican hot chocolate discs. The twist? A splash of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Garnish with marshmallows for that cozy holiday vibe.
