Colombian-American actress Rachel Zegler is showing how Latinas can multitask with diverse projects. Here’s the latest trailer for her starring role in Y2K.
Rachel Zegler is booked and busy as the year comes to a close. Besides making her Broadway debut in September, the talented Colombian-American actress is also rolling out another film: Y2K. A24’s Y2K is set to be released on December 6.
According to Variety, the film’s logline reads: “On the last night of 1999, two high school juniors crash a New Year’s Eve party, only to find themselves fighting for their lives in this dial-up disaster comedy.” Produced by Jonah Hill, the horror comedy stars Zegler alongside Jaeden Martell and Julian Dennison.
What can we expect? According to the new trailer, mayhem is orchestrated by evil bots! The highly anticipated movie, which just released its first trailer this week (Aug. 20), features nostalgic and retro elements like AOL’s iconic dial-up process, evil Tamagotchis, and killer VHS players. The film is set around New Year’s Eve 1999. However, a defective bug begins to take over technology once the clock strikes midnight—a paranoia that many of us experienced growing up in the 1990s.
Social media users are reminiscing about the film’s concept. One YouTube user, Randy_Richmond, commented: “I remember New Year’s Eve night 1999. I was 17 years old, watching Lethal Weapon 4 on cable, waiting for everything to shut down. Of course, nothing happened. Lmao.” Another user, @BarbaraHutchison-m8s, wrote: “I was just telling my daughter about the paranoia around New Year’s Eve 1999, and she found it hilarious! I remember being most concerned I’d be called into work to help fix PC issues!”
Other social media users are praising Zegler’s appearance. YouTube user @EmperorPiplup wrote: “Watching for Rachel.” Another user, @TommyDay-kq1jj, added: “OMGGG THERE’S RACHEL TOO, THIS LOOKS SO FUN.”
Zegler’s continuous Hollywood spotlight is burning bright—demonstrating that Latinas can be the face of many diverse projects at once. Not only is she recognized for her roles in West Side Story (2021) and Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023), but she’s also teasing her highly anticipated role as Disney’s Snow White. Snow White will be released on March 21, 2025, marking her biggest break yet.
