Latina powerhouses are set to shine at the 2024 MTV VMAs, with performances by Anitta, Karol G, and Camila Cabello leading the lineup. This year’s ceremony promises unforgettable moments, including the debut of new music and exciting nominations across major categories. Here’s a preview of what to expect on September 11.
Latinas are taking center stage at the 2024 MTV VMAs (Video Music Awards). This year’s ceremony will feature performances by Anitta, Karol G, and Camila Cabello, among other artists. American rapper Megan Thee Stallion will host the 2024 MTV VMAs at the UBS Arena in New York on September 11.
This marks Anitta’s third consecutive performance at the MTV VMAs. According to People, she’s set to perform a medley of her hits, including “Savage Funk,” the Argentine rapper Tiago PZK-assisted “Alegría,” and the global premiere of “Paradise.” “Paradise” is her upcoming collaboration with Puerto Rican-Cuban-American artist Fat Joe and Palestinian-American producer DJ Khaled.
The Brazilian superstar is also up for three awards this year. She’s nominated for Best Latin for “Mil Veces,” her collaboration with Peso Pluma on “Bellakeo,” and Best Editing for “Mil Veces.”
Although details on Karol G’s performance are still under wraps, fans might see her first televised performance of “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido.” Last year, she made her MTV VMA debut with a blend of her hits “Oki Doki” and “Tá Ok.” Karol is nominated for Best Latin this year for her hit song “Mi Ex Tenía Razón.”
Anitta and Karol G aren’t the only Latinas lighting up the stage this year. The first round of performers, announced on August 12, included Cuban-Mexican-American star Camila Cabello and Puerto Rican sensation Rauw Alejandro. Cabello recently released her latest album C, XOXO and is nominated for Best Pop.
Alejandro, meanwhile, is nominated for Best Latin, Best Cinematography, and Best Choreography for his song “Touching the Sky.” Could we expect him to perform this track, or will he surprise us with new music? After all, he’s set to drop a new album, Cosa Nuestra, in late fall.
What else can we expect at the MTV VMAs? Other non-Latina powerhouses include Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, and GloRilla, as well as legends like Lenny Kravitz, LL COOL J, and Shawn Mendes.
The MTV VMAs will air on MTV and Univision on September 11 at 8 p.m. EST.
