Adrienne Bailon reveals the true realities and expenses behind IVF treatments, offering a glimpse into her personal journey through fertility treatments and sharing her candid insights.
Adrienne Bailon-Houghton recently confessed in an exclusive interview for PEOPLE magazine that she invested over a million dollars in in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.
While it's not the first time the actress has been candid about the challenges she faced to become the mother of her 20-month-old son, Ever James, it is the first time she's shared the approximate cost of such treatments.
“Easily over a million,” Bailon assured the interviewer when asked how much she had spent on these procedures. Furthermore, the Raven’s Home actress acknowledged that “that's not realistic for the average person.”
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Adrienne Bailon has discussed the long journey she had to undergo to achieve motherhood. In January 2023, she shared on The Jennifer Hudson Show that she spent six years trying to become a mother, undergoing various fertility treatments without success.
It wasn't until she had only one embryo left that specialists recommended considering the option of using a surrogate. Although she was initially unconvinced by the idea, as it wasn't the way she had imagined becoming a mother, she ultimately realized she wouldn't change anything about her process.
“I'm the first touch he ever experienced, he just was there on me and I would not change a thing about it,” she tearfully shared in the interview with Jennifer Hudson.
Today, almost two years after actress Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and her husband, Israel Houghton, shared the news of their baby's birth via Instagram and revealed in the same post the details of their difficult journey to parenthood, we can only applaud their courage.
And it's because, although the topic of fertility remains taboo among women, it's becoming less so thanks to figures like Bailon using their influence to normalize discussing these issues and raise awareness that the path to motherhood doesn't have to be the same for all women.
